Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) was authorized in April 2016 by the New York State Public Service Commission. CCA gives cities, towns and villages the authority to aggregate residents and small businesses within their municipal boundary for group purchases of energy and energy related value-added products and services using an opt-out model. CCA takes decisions related to energy once made at the State or individual level and using a combination of the democratic process and educational efforts adds value for constituents. Through bulk purchasing, the creation of competition and the efforts of energy experts MEGA’s existing CCAs are able to offer value propositions including competitive rates on electricity, budget certainty, price stability, protection from the predatory practices of energy telemarketers and door-to-door sales and access to 100% renewable electricity. CCA’s ability to create a community-wide conversation on energy has the power to begin the transformation of participating communities’ energy future
